Final Write - Annie Edson Taylor Diary Entries
Date: 18th Oct 2025 @ 10:11am
After reading Queen of the Falls by Chris Van Allsburg, our students took on the role of Annie Edson Taylor—the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive. Using their imaginations and what they learned from the story, they wrote diary entries from Annie’s point of view at different moments in her life.
Each diary entry captures a unique perspective: some students wrote about Annie’s excitement and determination before her daring plunge, while others reflected on the day she came up with the idea, the day she had to close her charm school and also her betrayal by her manager after she had risked her life, or what it felt like to be overlooked by history despite her bravery.
The photos below show their creative work. Through these entries, our students explored themes of courage, ambition, and resilience—all through the eyes of a truly remarkable woman.
We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing them.
